| | | | green ez-cap / 16 oz grolsch type bottles Hi,
I'm wondering if it is possible to purchase (new) green 16 oz ez cap
(grolsch swing top style) bottles. I can find clear and blue but not green.
I'd buy grolsch beer just for the bottles but the bottles and caps have
"grolsch" witten on them. If anyone knows of a source please let me know.
Thanks |

As far as I understand it, you really should not use green glass
bottles. The reason is that the color green does not filter out the
UV rays that make beer go skunky. Blue and amber bottles do filter
out these rays. I guess that is why you found these colors available,
but not green.

what I do with all bottles. Plus I use a LOT of clear bottles.
BTW, I have heard that even the blue and amber allow UV light at your
beer.

Clear
Green
Blue
Amber
Brown
Clay/Porcelain
But it's all relative. My beer doesn't even see indirect light until its time to chill and that's very brief.

Color of bottle and the resulting quality aside, if you really want
the green bottles, you can always buy the Grolsch bottles and get
replacement swingtops which are unprinted from various online
suppliers such as Williams Brewing etc.

That one fits the Grolsch bottles but it's going to get expensive. I
have taken to bottling in clear glass myself as it allows me to see
the interior of the bottles at a glance during cleaning. I don't
worry about the light because after bottling, they go straight into
the case which is then closed and put on the shelf in the basement
until they're needed. My bar fridge light has burnt out long ago and
the bar itself is in the basemsent with no windows, and is lit via
LEDs which produce next to no UV light anyway. As far as I can tell,
the only UV light my beer sees occurs while the barley and hops are
still growing in the fields.
