Stupid brewing tricks-yeastcicle sticks

Guys,
I just started brewing again last week after a 5 year layoff. My renewed
interest might as well have been due to the latest hefty price increase at
the liquor store (I'm in San Diego area-anybody else notice this?). Happily
however, it's due to my new digs with my lovely new bride. Finally, a patio
to brew on!! And a garage to store my stuff. DAGTH (died and gone to
heaven).
Anyway, I got it off to a bang by participated in last weeks "teach a friend
to brew" day. Things went well enough, worked the bugs out of the process
(literally and figuratively). In the end though, as we were cleaning up, I
had my buddy throw the bag of leftover hops in the chest freezer (life is
good indeed) in the garage. The next day, I found out the whitelabs yeast
I'd bought for the next brew session was amongst the frozen. Of course, I
took it out, placing it in the refrigerator for a more gradual return to
liquid state.
Any ideas at all as to whether this guy is gonna get with the program next
week? For the cost, I could chuck (rather than pitch) it in the trash. It
seems like the kind of thing that could've happened to someone else so I
thought I'd ask. I could just try to make a starter out of it, but I don't
want to expend the effort if it's likely to fail.
Thanks in advance for the advice. BTW, I brewed an IPA that percolated
happily and will be racked to secondary later today. I'm just gonna go with
kegging as bottling is a PITA. Might as well start on the right foot this
time.
Greg

It's likely to be dead, but you could make a starter with to see what
happens.
