Question about Keg life and brewing

Hi,
I was wondering If I get a beermeister, how long will a keg last if
refrigerated and pressurized?

Also, I want to start brewing my own beer soon, can anyone suggest any
good books/websites?

Thanks,
John Spleenminus@yahoo.com

It depends greatly on cleanliness....
the ever recurring factor.

The best online book for beginner to intermediate brewers (and better than a
lot of printed ones)

For brewing yourself: http://www.howtobrew.com

About the beermeister... Oh boy! I had one of these when I was 23, me
and my roomate went in together and got one for the apartment. The
salesguy trundled that damn thing in there and hooked it up and
started handing out beer in our living room! How in the heck could we
say no? It seemed perfect, but there were many downsides (at least for
us). The most important being that we didn't drink bud, miller, coors,
etc. We liked a variety of micros & imports. The problem they don't
tell you is that most imports use a different keg attachment than the
"regular" sankey. So your keg of Paulaner Salvator will cost you
whatever the keg costs plus about $50.00 for their type of keg
connector. This even happened to us with micros a lot of the time.
Keep in mind this was 10 years ago so maybe the micros have
standardized a bit.

You will also find that you suddenly have 15.5 gallons of the SAME
beer to consume. I guess this is okay if you don't like variety but we
usually didn't buy the same six pack twice in a month so it got to be
a drag.

Lastly, you will become the most popular person in your complex/block.
No kidding, I had people knocking on my door that I had never seen
before asking if I still had that keg. Also, don't count on your
friends to contribute in any way except making the keg empty. Oh yes,
and if you homebrew you will most likely keg in 5 gallon corny kegs
and a regular old fridge works best for that so your beermeister may
find itself on the auction block...

Oops - almost forgot about your question of how long a keg will last!
It will last until you finish it! CO2 will keep the beer from getting
oxidized & rotten and you will be surprised at how little time it
takes to go through a keg.

Re: Question about Keg life and brewing

I may just convert an old fridge. Is it easy? Do you recomend a brand
of kit?
I am mainly looking to get this because one of my favorite beers
(Hoegaarden ) is available in Keg here but not bottles.

and my freezer conversion:

Beer here,
