i am a complete beginner (have not even started brewing yet). can anyone
please advise me where to start and any kit that is required.

You will probably get several replies identical to this one.

First, check out [url]www.howtobrew.com[/url] . It is probably the best intro to beer
brewing around. It is a complete on-line version of John Palmer's book by
the same name.

Next, pay a visit to your local homebrew shop (generally abbreviated on the
newsgroups as LHBS). Talk with them awhile (most are quite helpful, but
some are full of bs). Don't feel obligated to buy anything the first trip.
Get a feel for what you need in the way of equipment (and prices) and what
kind of beer you want to make. I would advised a darker beer like a brown
ale to start. The darker beers will hide a lot of newbie mistakes and still
taste great.

I would advise also checking out the newsgroup rec.crafts.beer. That group
has a lot more traffic than this one. Lots of friendly, helpful folks
there. Some of the best help around can be found right there.

Try the folks at "Beer, Beer, and More Beer" located in Concord CA. ...

Great equipment for all skill levels of brewing, reasonable prices, and
great support staff for advice, etc...

Also, agree w/ Waynes post on "howtobrew.com" webpage... I started there.

don't get too wound up w/ all the technical gargon - brewing is very easy
(like cooking)... theres a ton of room for creativity, like a spagetti
sauce... just follow the basics, practice good sanitation, and have fun!
