| | | | Which small keg set up is best? I was thinking of buying one of these set ups only for temporary and don't
want to spend much but want something that won't ruin my batches. What do
you guys think? Any suggestions or words of experience would be greatly
appreciated. BTW I usually brew 2.5 to 5 Gallon batches
This shows all the components of system 1

plastic and the other used SS. You cant force carb the beer as the kits
come. So you still have to wait the 2 weeks (or however long you wait) to
naturally carbonate your beer. If you are trying to save $$ go with the
plastic. With the SS one, you are just paying for the metal and the wood
stand. The plastic one is big enough to fit a batch.
Hope this helps,

| | | | Re: Which small keg set up is best? True. I wonder exactly how many uses I'll get out of those bottles. The
Williams Catalog says six batches or so? I guess the plastic one would be
easier. I am bottle condition right now anyways.
Thanks Joe.

| | | | Re: Which small keg set up is best? I have the Philtap and it works great. It is easy to clean and easy
to tap.
After saying that, purchasing it was a huge mistake. When you start
doing the math on the inital cost and the cost of the mini-kegs, a
full blown corny system is not that far out of reach. The Philtap is
$50. The minis will eventually need replacement due to rust and wear
on the inside coating. The tap-a-draft is plastic, enough said. The
mini-kegs are $7-8 each and it takes 3-4 to hold a five gallon batch.
$8x4=$32, which will buy a recondtioned corny and all parts are
replaceable. I know the start-up is more for the cornies which is why
I went with the mini-kegs. Hold out for a corny system, you will be
much happier.

room to put another fridge. I think until then I may purchase the Tap a
draft for a temporary basis($80 with extra bottles not too bad), I don't
like bottling and usually fill 1 liter flip top bottles for my smaller
batches. I guess I would still have to bottle condition. Does anyone have
any personal experience with the the Tap a Draft system, like how long will
a bottle last in the fridge?, Do they bust frequently? etc.
Thanks

I have never had the tap-a-draft. I would still suggest looking at
the philtap. If you like the plastic bottles, you can drill the caps
of 2/3 liter bottles and use bung plugs and the philtap will fit. The
philtap is all stainless steel and will last for ever. Also, Dan
Listermann who makes them provides great support. He also a big
contributor on the newsgroups.
