Is it okay to use water instead of pot meta in the airlock?

I always use water. My first batch I used a few oz. of my sanitizing
solution, but since I have always used water. hope this helps.

Just water is fine, as long as you don't risk sucking dirty water back
into your fermenter. This means 1) make sure nothing nasty can get into
the water, or 2) you always have positive CO2 pressure in the fermenter,
or 3) you put in little enough water that it can't get sucked back in
(or, of course, two or all three of the above).
