Green stuff

Anyone have any idea what causes the green coloured crusty stuff that forms
around the brass(?) pressure barrel valve? It's a ***** to remove.

Thanks

Re: Green stuff

So should i try and clean it off or is that pretty much normal for pressure
barrels and should just be ignored? I was a bit concerned it may interfere
with the operation of releasing excess carbon dioxide. (Yeah, i'm also
pretty new to brewing.) :-)
