My local brewery supply of bottles has dried up (they finally went to
twist offs!). I've been buying various microbrews in 6 packs at the
store. Is there any reason I can't reuse their bottles for homebrew?
The reason I ask is at the base of the bottle, there is raised letters
saying "Do Not Refill"...does that just mean they are not returnable to
the brewery or is there a safety reason they should not be used again
(ie explosion?)???

They're not *commercially* refillable - what you do with them in the
privacy of your own home is your business.

I gave up longnecks a few years back in favor of 5gal soda kegs but when
I want bottled brew I turn to Grolsh bottles - that's definitely the way
to go! A case cost me $15 or $18 but its money well spent as far as I'm
concerned. If you buy them already filled at the store like the
microbrews you're buying, all the better....

As a follow-up to my earlier post - I just bought a case of 1 liter
Grolsh bottles (didn't even know they existed) at a slightly lower price
($21) than the 500ml bottles ($23) - and these are pretty cool looking
bottles. That adds up to half the bottle washing per batch and I have no
problem dealing with liter size servings. I might even consider
increasing my % of bottled vs kegged.
