Tips to The Best Homemade Wine

Close your eyes and imagine the delicious flavor of a homemade wine slipping tantalizingly over your tongue as you enjoy the fruits of your labor. If you want to get to this point in your wine making, then you need to follow a few simple steps to guarantee that your wine is not reminiscent of vinegar.

From start to finish, wine making is an art and not everyone is up to the task. It does not involve a truly artistic sort of talent, but rather it involves the virtue of patience. Patience to follow the steps is needed to arrive at a final product that will be pleasing to the taste. Follow the strategies here for a successful venture.

Cleanliness

Sterilize every single piece of equipment that you will use to make your homemade wine. This includes the bottles, fermentation bucket, transfer tubing, corks, and more. Each piece, no matter how small, needs to be thoroughly cleaned.

Typically, homemade wine kits come packaged with the necessary sulfites and directions to sterilize the equipment. The only way to avoid contaminates such as mold and bacteria is to start with sanitized equipment each time you make your wine.

Additionally, it is important to thoroughly clean the fruit that is going to be used with your recipe. Also, make sure that the water is of excellent quality as well, and that it is in a sterilized container.

Moreover, wooden and plastic should be avoided, especially in spoons. Wood and plastic tend to degrade or deteriorate over time and lose their pristine qualities.

Equipment

Using the proper equipment is essential to your wine making. Standard wine bottles with a cork finish are great storage containers and are available at a number of locations. Natural corks perform much better than synthetic corks. If you decide to use plastic containers, then make sure that you use a good food grade plastic. If you want quality wine, then you need to splurge a little for quality equipment.

Air Contaminants

One of the most important steps to wine making is to avoid contamination by air. Unfortunately, harmful particles exist everywhere, including the lair around us. Therefore, it is important to tightly cover your fermenting wine to avoid these pollutants.

Several choices are available to you depending on your equipment. Plastic wrap or a tight fitting lid works well on bottles and jars. However, a truly nice piece of equipment to use that will keep your wine airtight is a carboy with a bung corker or stopper.

Release the Carbon Dioxide

Once you get to the point when the carbon dioxide needs to be released, this is no time to get lazy. Stir, stir, stir your wine and merrily the wine will flow. Seriously, though, the stirring of your wine needs to be vigorous enough to release the carbon dioxide.

To make a fine wine is indeed an artful endeavor. Plan, implement, and follow through are the basic steps that you need to follow. Practice will only improve upon your efforts, so by all means, practice.
