Just here to learn!!

I have never brewed anything before and any advice would be great. I need to know everything like what books I should get and what system I should buy.

How to Brew - By John Palmer - Introduction
Maybe the most excellent place to start. There is a lot to learn but you don't have to learn it all before your first batch. I would HIGHLY recommend finding a local homebrew shop to get you off to a good start even if it isn't that local.

Buy a 5 gallon startup kit. After you make your first good batch, 3 gallons won't be enough. Most of the recipes are geared to 5 or 10 gallon batches.

I an also in the same boat but I did not research before I started. I have bottled my first batch and wonder if I did wrong I did not follow the instruction on the can instead I used the instructions on a leaflet included

1. ferment for 3-6 Days
2. clarify 7-10 days
3. bottle 21-30 days
4. enjoy

I used a Coopers ale mix with regular table sugar I am wondering if I will get any carbonation in the end?
Thanks for any info

The sugar you added when you bottled your beer will provide the carbonation.

Depending on the area "isn't that local" is around 200 miles one way. While I do try and stock up when I make that trip I have found that there are several good web sites that I can order from. Not sure what the policies are on this board for talking about one of my favorites but if you would care to know which one I would HIGHLY recommend shoot me an E-mail. I think I made my e-mail public.
As far as books go... I have found most say about the same thing and in reality there are very fine web sites that don't cost a dime and have about the same info.
