Hello all!

Just a quick hello and greetings to my fellow beer freaks! My name is Janet and I am in Phoenix, AZ. My husband and I just recently started making our own homebrew. So far it has been great, our 2nd batch (a porter) took the Silver medal at the ASH Oktoberfest and I have been experimenting a lot on my quest to make the perfect "chick" beer. We have yet to make any friends in the homebrew community but I would love to be able to exchange ideas and experiences with people. Anyway look forward to hearing others thoughts etc. Cheers

Welcome to the forum and obsession Janet. Congratulations on the medal from ASH especially being your second brew. Watch for the GAzHB competition coming up after the first of the year in case you feel like competing or better yet volunteering . There are many homebrewers in Phx and the surrounding areas. Some, like myself, belong to clubs and many others that do not but all are very fine artists. What style/technique are you brewing? E/EG/PW/FM? We also have several brewouts in the valley such as the Holiday Brewout this past weekend at What Ales Ya in the NW valley.

Welcome,
Wild

Hello Wild! Yes we are excited about the GAzBH, where would I find out more about volunteering? We have not had very good experiences with ASH plus they meet during the week so my husband and I were considering BA. Are there any other clubs here in the valley? I'm not exactly sure what E/EG/PW/FM is but I am guessing we are EG, extract/grain brewers right now. We brew in the kitchen on the stove top but the ol veteren's I have had sample my brew have all given me a "suprised thumbs up" lol I have to say I am interested in learning more about kegging after the 1st of the year as we drink the stuff way faster than I can make it. Seems ever since I started this hobby store bought beer just isn't as good. I am pretty partial to making porter's but the hubby wants to brew up amber this next batch, if anyone has a killler recipe please let me know!

BA has a website where you can find out where and when each meeting is. They normally are held at member's homes on the second Sunday of each month except during the summer when they change to Saturdays for pool parties. The club VP will usually start recruiting club members to volunteer for the competition around the end of January. The only other clubs in the valley are the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild and BeerDude. As for an amber, the only amber I have is a recipe given to me by Chuck at What Ales Ya. It's called Amber Surprise. The surprise is that it's 9%! Let me know if you want it.

Talk with you soon,
Wild

We would love the recipe for your Amber Surprise. Thanks for the info about the clubs. I will send a shout out to the ol VP over at BA and see about voluteering. We haven't been to a festival yet so we are looking forward to this one coming up. Entering our beer into the ASH Oktoberfest was a fluke really and no one was more surprised than us to hear we had placed. But we didn't go because I didn't want to pay $50 to get in if we weren't going to be in the club. Not to mention I couldn't get a response from anyone regarding a membership anyway. I think after the holidays we will head out to one of the BA meetings, just by looking at the website it seems more our speed. It's still a drive for us but if it means it gets to be at my house sometimes that's a fair trade. You will have to tell me your name so we can find ya and say hello! Thanks again for the reply and insight! PS i tried to reply via email but it got kicked back maybe the one you have on your profile isn't used anymore?
