Texas arresting people in bars for being drunk

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Reuters) - Texas has begun sending undercover agents into bars to arrest drinkers for being drunk, a spokeswoman for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said on Wednesday

The first sting operation was conducted recently in a Dallas suburb where agents infiltrated 36 bars and arrested 30 people for public intoxication, said the commission's Carolyn Beck.

Being in a bar does not exempt one from the state laws against public drunkenness, Beck said.

That's absurd for them to be doing that. If you're in a bar, are you not in a business establishment, owned by a private citizen? Sure, you're not in a private residence, but you're not out on the streets, either.

That's Texas for Ya'

Yep we have some of the most odd and restrictive laws on alcohol in the U.S.A. but yet for some reason drug runners and illegal immagrants are allowed to run amuck. Don't make since to me but then what do I know I just work for a living and drink beer.

It's all a prohibition hold over. Here they're waging war on smoking. They're banning everything, everywhere. You can have a steak charred in to a carcinogenic lump (eating over cooked food it just as carcinogenic as smoking), but you can't elect to sit in a sectioned off smoking area .... even in a bar!
