When I was a teen it was Coors Extra Gold in longneck bottles. Guess I didn't drink enough since they don't have it in TX anymore.

Later it was Shiner and Shiner Bock but then the Microbrew craze started and the price jumped up higher than Coors so I went back to good old fashioned Coors.

Somewhere along the line I started sampling ales and found the darks very good. Stouts became my favorite and while the job market was good and corporations where paying well I lived high on the hog and the stouts.
During this time I began experimenting with homebrewing.

Corporate downfall, ended up out in the cold, became a work burnout. Favorite became what ever was on the cheap end of the supermarket isle and even then it had to be on sale. Had to give up homebrewing for a while.

Now I work a miserable job for little pay but still make enough to homebrew. Now I mostly drink homebrew unless I drink to fast and run out then I buy some of the new "Ice Ale" beers. Ice Ale??? OK I'll go along with it if I can get a 5.6% brew for the same low price of Keystone, Natural, or Old Milwaulkee.

If I had the cash to buy what I really want I would buy the Sierra Nevada line and McEwans. If money was really no object then I would drink Chimay, Corsendonk, and other ales from Belgium.

Yep the Ice Ale is yuck compared to others but it has a little kick and it's cheap. Give me a better paying job and I'll buy better beer.

I recently found a beer here in Sacramento called "Rip Roarin' Red" - great tasting red beer.

Re: Whats your favorite non-homebrew beer.

My top 5 would go like this...

1. Alagash Tripple Belgian
2. Oak Creek Saison (seasonal and not even distributed)
3. Chimay (Blue label)
4. Triple Karmeliet
5. Practically anything from New Belgium

Re: Whats your favorite non-homebrew beer.

Sorry, I am more of a middle class drinker. I like Chimay, but not enough to pay the jack for it on a regular basis. It's more of a special occasions beer. For my everyday purchase it's St. Pauli Dark or Beck's Dark (Can't tell a difference between the two). I found a new favorite in Chicago O'Hare last time through. It's made in the Chicago area. The Brewery is Goose Island and the brew is Honker's Ale. Still working on the Home Brew and once I get home to my kit I will start my first batch. I am hoping that my liquor store buying days are over!
