If the destination is my choice, I'll start with a cask then to work my way from ambers, reds, browns, pales then to a big finish with a Imp. stout or barleywine. If its someone else's destination, most likely it will be iced tea. AZ isn't known for being a beer mecca leaving few good beer ports and more BMC spots in between.

| | | Re: What do you drink when you go out? As Wild said AZ is not a very good place for beer diversification. Very few bars in the area have anything descent on tap. The Yard house is one BIG exception. With over 100 beers on tap, it is my favorite bar/restaurant by far.
When I go to a friends house, it normally entails a 30 minute drive out of my way to a specialty store (like AJ's or BevMo) to find anything moderately good. But then, of late, I have been just bringing a few 6 packs of my own brew to satisfy my palate.
All my friends know that if we are drinking at their place, I make the beer selection, and I bring it myself. If I don’t buy, they end up buying Miller Lite or Dos Equis… And I would rather die of thirst in a desert than drink the cheap stuff.
But to answer, What I would drink if I went out (and it was readily available) would be Corsendonk Brown Ale, or Triple Karmeliet. Mmmm. Which by the way are both at the Yard House. |

| | | Re: What do you drink when you go out? You should come down here to Florida. We have two decent places to go for micro-brews. Its still a bit of a drive from where I am at, but they both carry over 100 different beers. Here is a short list of one the places I go. They change pretty often too. Last time I was there was a pint of beer they had for $13.99. I had to take a double look.
A little bit further away is Dunedin Brewery. Its a fairly small place, but the beer is fresh. |

| | | Re: What do you drink when you go out? It has occured to me that after reading different threads, in different parts of the forums, that there seems to be a bit of "beer-snobbery" running around. What has happened to "My favorite beer is free, and cold. And if not cold, then at least free."? Is Bud, Miller or anything of that like really so bad that you would rather go without while your friends are having a good time? This is not to say that when given the option, I would choose something from the "Big Three" over an Anchor Steam, or such. Remember, isn't AB, MBC, and Coors that made you want to brew your own?
Is brewing your own something to become an elitist over? Man, I hope not.
I can just imagine the fire storm this is going to brew up. Sorry for the pun.......no I'm not. |

| | | Re: What do you drink when you go out? I was brought up believing that there are two kinds of beer in the world, Good and Free. Out here in the desert if someone were to offer me a Bud, and they have, I'd be obliged to take it but I won't spent the money on BMC. Just because I was rased on BMC many, many years ago, doesn't mean I have to keep drinking it. I'll spend the extra on something that my taste buds will enjoy. Better yet, if I have homebrew, then I'm even better off. Wild

| | | Re: What do you drink when you go out? I agree, wild, that just because one was raised on BMC one musn't keep drinking it. It wasn't meant as criticism, just an observation that I have made. I still enjoy a BMC (or even a Rainier or Lucky lager...yes really) once in a while. I just got the impression that some were of the thought "What do you mean by offering me that?! You are quite the redneck, aren't you? ...hmmph, me drink that...". Thus the term "beer-snobbery". (I am occassionaly guilty of the charge) |
