It's my first time so I was wondering if you have tried selling things at the comfort of your own garage. Can I get some insights or tips before doing this? I need to get rid of some things that are no longer used but they're still functional.

I've had many garage sales in my day and usually finish 2.5 to 3K by the end of it all.
    Tips:
    1) Gather tables and signs.
    2) Put a short ad in the local paper, the free papers, and craig's list. List major and eye catching items.
    3) Get some help.
    4) Put signs on the major intersections outside of your neighborhood.
    5) Cut arrows out of the same color signs from above to help lead folks to your house in case it's not easy to find.
    6) Have electricity available for appliances.
    7) Have all prices clear in your head and at least 1.5 times higher than you can be bid down to.
    8) Do not use price tags or stickers. They have a habit of moving from 5ยข items to $5 items.
    9) Set everything up to be easily moved out of the garage onto the driveway and back when you are done.
    10) If you do not want it to be sold/stolen, don't let it be seen.
    11) Whatever is left over and you don't want to do another sale, write it down, donate it, and write it off.

If all that is too much, go straight to 11. Good luck

Wild I like your ideas, but one thing you forgot is if you have a Facebook account with friends who are living local to you on there, then post it there to! Then you may get some additional traffic from posting the site there.

That's a good point Waynefire. I've just never use social media for garage sales.

Thank you for the tips wild! They are very helpful for me. I'll use them to guide me for preparation. This is so exciting! My brother volunteered to help me with this plan.

    Hope you do well.

Hey wild, I wasn't able to sell things in the garage because it has been raining here and there. Our location is prone to flooding on the streets. We plan to do it after the rainy season. By the way, is it possible to sell defective items in the garage?

Most anything can be sold. I have found that it is better to let the customer know about defects.

The more you can get the word out the better your chances are of visitors. Same thing applies when you are launching a new website, why do you think people spend so much time dealing with advertising? Make some signs with good directions and plaster them all over town.

Make sure you advertise on every street you can. Also, try to serve refreshments because "free" always attracts people.

You can sell anything you want in a garage sale. It's important to tell the people that it doesn't work though! Good luck when you have it later. We love garage sales!

I have never had a garage sale before. We have always considered it, but we don't even have a garage. Therefore, ours would be more of a yard sale. I have had some luck with Craigslist and eBay when it came to getting rid of any unwanted items.

I have never had a garage sale but I like going to one! Just recently, I was able to get several good books all at just $1 each. Anyway, as mentioned, advertising is a necessity. Take advantage of social media sites.

Thank you guys for the tips! We plan to have it on the last Sunday of this month. For sure that should give me plenty of time to prepare. I've written down the list of things to sell, and I've started the laundry job for the clothes that will be put up for sale this week. There are about more than 50 apparels that no longer fit on me.

Hang the delicates but fold the rest on a table. The ladies like to rummage through the pile. Plan to fold them several times throughout the day. Oh, and the best time to have the sale is mid to late Spring when most receive their income tax checks.
