Hot sauce. We all know it as that stuff you put on food to give it that extra punch, and add spice to an otherwise boring meal. But did you know that the sultry condiment can do more to your body than give your tongue and throat a run for its money? That’s right; it can actually be good for you. But how does that work, exactly? Shouldn’t it be doing the exact opposite? That’s what many people who would rather avoid the stuff would like to believe, but it’s actually something you could add to your regular diet and not be considered a crazy move.
Hot sauce contains an ingredient found in chili peppers and jalapenos called capsaicin. Below are just a few of the benefits that they can bring.

Now that you have all of that information under your belt, you may be wondering how to create some hot sauce of your own and start down the road to better health.
What You’ll Need
-16 ounces of tomato sauce
-1 tablespoon of vinegar
-1 clove of garlic
-1/2 to 2 pounds of peppers
-1/2 large onion
1. Choose your poison, or pepper if you’d prefer to refer to it that way. Each pepper has its own characteristics, and some are hotter than others. For example, habanero is almost about as hot as it can get, while jalapenos are ideal for those who prefer something milder.
2. Once you know what you’d like to use, do some figuring on how many pounds of the pepper you will need. This is where the 1/2 to 2 pounds ratio will come into play. Make sure that you are comfortable with the level of spiciness by taking a drop and placing it on your tongue. You should know almost immediately if it’s something you want to pursue.
3. Take the clove of garlic and chop it up, but don’t worry that the pieces are too large or small.
4. You’re going to want to chop up the onion, as well.
5. With any blender you have handy, throw in the 16 ounces of tomato sauce, garlic, onion and peppers. Blend it together as well as you can, taking care that there are no large chunks left over.
6. Relocate your new mix into a frying pan and cook until it simmers. Stir in the tablespoon of vinegar, and you’re ready to have your homemade hot sauce at dinner.
