Lughnasadh Loaf

Today I'm making a loaf of bread to celebrate Lughnasadh, the grain harvest. I make it just like regular loaf of bread except I mold it into a human shape. Usually by the time it finishes rising again it spreads out and is somewhat vaguely human-shaped. ;) Then we eat the bread and crumble some of it outside for the birds.

Never heard of this before but it does sound interesting. Here's an interesting article describing this ritual. Interesting indeed! It falls under Paganism and Wicca.

Earth based rituals have always interested me. I seem to find a certain comfort in nature that I can't find in the hustle and bustle of modern life.

My kids really enjoyed throwing pieces of bread out in the yard. Some ibises came right up and started eating the bread as we were still tossing pieces.
