Mead Day

Saturday, August 4, 2012 is National Mead Day.
First organized in 2002 by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA), Mead Day is a national event to increase mead awareness and foster camaraderie among meadmakers.

Homebrewers around the world are encouraged to invite friends and family to celebrate Mead Day by making mead together.

That's an interesting way to raise awareness. Are there any events or anything for it? Or is it simply to make your own at home on a specific day that everyone else is doing the same?

Our club would have a brewout where brewers would get together and make mead. The following weekend, the Arizona Mead Cup (mead competition) would be held for meads made from previous years.

I associate mead drinking with the old Anglo Saxons in England. It's interesting that the traditions continue in modern day America. I'd love to try this ancient drink.

Mead Day is also a Saturday this year, so it's an ideal day to make mead. I've never done it before but maybe I will try it this year.
